G2 Hel to compete in the Svenska Onlineligan (Swedish 1st division)

The female LoL team of G2 returns to the European Regional Leagues.

G2 Hel, the female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, will compete in the Svenska Onlineligan following their relegation from the Northern LoL Championship Division 2. They make their debut tonight at 20:30 CEST, facing Team CD.

The Svenska Onlineligan Division 1 is on the 3rd tier of the Northern LoL Championship ecosystem, alongside the top divisions of the other national leagues included in the NLC. 10 teams will compete in single round-robin format with Best of 2 matches, and the Top 6 teams will qualify for the playoffs. In addition, the Top 2 teams will qualify to the NLC Regional Promotion Series, where they’ll compete for a spot in the in the 2025 NLC Division 2.

G2 Hel qualified for the Svenska Onlineligan by getting relegated from the NLC Division 2 in the 2024 Spring Split. Prior to their participation in the NLC Regional Promotion Series, they declared the Svenska Onlineligan to be the league for them to demote into in case of relegation.

Under the current ruleset of the Svenska Onlineligan, G2 Hel are not able to participate with their main lineup. Rule 1.10 states that each team must field at least 3 Swedish citizens amongst their 5 players, while G2 Hel has only 2: toplaner Lizia and botlaner Caltys. G2 Hel coach Emtest, who is a Swedish citizen and former professional botlaner, could fill in as a jungler/midlaner/support. It remains to be seen how G2 Hel will deal with the restriction imposed by rule 1.10.

UPDATE: A staff member of the Svenska Onlineligan has confirmed to me that G2 Hel have been exempted from Rule 1.10. for this split. Specifically, the exception allows G2 Hel to compete in this split with 2 Swedish citizens in the starting lineup rather than the minimum of 3 stated in Rule 1.10. This means that G2 Hel will be able to compete in the Svenska Onlineligan with their main lineup.
