G2 Hel relegated out of the Northern LoL Championship Division 2
An unfortunate ending for G2 Hel's spring split.
G2 Hel, the female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, have finished their Spring Split. They have been relegated out of the Northern LoL Championship Division 2 following a defeat to Norwegian team Lazy In Life during the Regional Promotion Series.
By finishing last in the NLC Division 2 this split, G2 Hel needed to play in Regional Promotion Series; it is the tournament that determines which 2 teams get to play in the NLC Division 2 for the Summer Split. 14 teams participate:
The bottom 2 teams from the NLC Division 2
The top 2 teams from each of the 5 NLC National Leagues
The top 2 teams from the NLC Open Ladder
As one of the Division 2 teams, G2 Hel were seeded straight to the quarterfinals. There they faced Lazy In Life, who made it through the group stage with a 3-2 record. While Lazy In Life finished 2nd in the Norwegian championship, they got the #1 seed because the champions, DMG Esports Norway, did not participate. Orgs are not allowed to have 2 teams in the Regional Promotion Series, and DMG chose to send the DMG Esports Denmark team, who were the Danish runner-ups, instead.
The first game was closely fought, with a lot of back-and-forths. Lazy In Life eventually managed to overcome G2 Hel’s stern resistance, getting the win after almost 40 minutes. The second game was a fast-paced bloodbath full of action. Lazy In Life brought down G2 Hel’s nexus after 27 minutes, relegating them.
G2 Hel’s toplaner, Lizia, posted on X (Twitter) after the match:
0-2 today which means we are out
Happy we fought back at the end of the split but sadly it wasn't enough. ggs @LazyInLifeLOL
G2 Hel had declared the Svenska Onlineligan, which is the Swedish championship, as the league to get relegated into. However, they can’t compete in it under the current rules: it requires 3 Swedish players, while G2 Hel only has 2 (Lizia, Caltys). However, G2 Hel do have the residency requirements to compete in the Nexus Tour, the French tier 3-5 event; it requires a minimum of 2 French players, which they have (Sha, Colomblbl). G2 Hel are also competing in the Equal Esports Cup, the official EMEA competition for women & enbies, where they are currently tied for 2nd place with a 2-1 record.
