MAD Lions KOI release their female League of Legends team
MAD Lions KOI Femenino disbands after the end of the Equal Esports Cup
MAD Lions KOI have announced the release of MAD Lions KOI Femenino, their female League of Legends team.
MAD Lions KOI Femenino was publicly announced on the 4th of January. The lineup consisted of: Bosnian toplaner FengDere, Greek jungler Delicate, British midlaner Vixen, Norwegian botlane duo of botlaner Stratospanda + support Pjush, and Austrian coach Jay.
Their first tournament was the 2024 spring split Prime League Calibration. Prime League is the European Regional League covering the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), and the Calibration tournament places new teams in a Division from 5 to 8 based on their results. They had a perfect record in Day 1, going 5-0. However, they were disqualified after a realization that they didn’t meet the residency requirements to compete in it.
MDK Femenino then joined the Northern LoL Championship Open Ladder, through which teams can qualify into the NLC Regional Promotion Series and compete for promotion to the NLC Division 2 . They played only 1 match there, a 1-1 draw vs Murk Esports on the 11th of February.
On the 9th of April, it was announced that MDK Femenino received a direct invite to compete in the Equal Esports Cup, the official EMEA region tournament for women & enbies. A few days later, botlaner Stratospanda put out a tweet through which all players except midlaner Vixen announced that they were looking for a new organization to join. Then, on the 29th of April, a new MDK Femenino lineup was announced. This lineup saw the return of toplaner Emolga and botlaner Sakkuromi, who competed for KOI Amethyst in the Equal Esports Cup last year. Midlaner Vixen and coach Jay remained, while jungler Paradox and support Dragon competed the lineup. Miyuuri joined as a substite support, and former starting jungler Delicate stayed as a substitute.
The second MDK Femenino lineup made its debut on the 3rd of May, being defeated by Solary Academie in the opening match of the 2024 Equal Esports Cup. After starting 0-5, a final lineup change was made: midlaner Vixen left, support Dragon roleswapped back to mid, and substitute support Miyuuri was promoted to the starting lineup. This third lineup also lost all games, going 0-4. MAD Lions KOI finished last in the 2024 Equal Esports Cup with a 0-9 record, not qualifying to the playoffs.
This developments brings the number of LEC orgs with female LoL teams down to 4: G2 Esports, SK Gaming, Team BDS, and Team Vitality.
