G2 Hel finish in last place of the Northern LoL Championship Division 2
Will they survive the upcoming relegation tournament?
G2 Hel, the female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, have finished last in Northern LoL Championship Division 2. It has been a difficult split for Europe’s most popular female LoL team.
G2 Hel’s split concluded with a defeat to Swedish team Karolinerna. By finishing last, G2 Hel must play in relegations to fight for their spot in Division 2. It also means that, should G2 Hel keep their spot in Division 2, they will have 0 points towards the promotion tournament for Division 1 at the end of the year. G2 Hel’s botlaner, Caltys, posted on X (Twitter) following the game:
Today concludes our NLC spring split with relegations awaiting us in May. Although our final results were terrible we still managed to put up a fight in a majority of our games. We'll close the gap and show a stronger performance in future matches #G2WIN
G2 Hel were underdogs coming into this Division 2 split, as they were a mid-table team in Division 3 last year. They were allowed to play in Division 2 by applying for it; a spot became available due to another org pulling out before the split began. They are the first female team to ever compete in the 2nd tier of a European Regional League.
G2 Hel’s overall record for the split was 2 wins & 16 losses. They had a rough start with a 11-game losing stream, but were able to partially recover and score better results in the later stages. Their 2 wins were against KAOS e-sport and UniQ Esports Club, who finished 6th and 8th respectively.
With their winrate being 11%, G2 Hel’s game record is the worst in the history of the NLC Division 2. The previous worst game record was held by Guarp Gaming, who had a 15% winrate (3 wins, 17 losses) in the 2023 Spring Split.
G2 Hel will now play in the Regional Promotion Series, the tournament that determines which 2 teams get to play in the NLC Division 2 for the Summer Split. The 14 teams that will compete in it are:
The bottom 2 teams from the NLC Division 2
The top 2 teams from each of the 5 NLC National Leagues
The top 2 teams from the NLC Open Ladder
I reached out to G2 Hel for comment, but they were unavailable due to taking a vacation following the end of the NLC Division 2 regular season.
