G2 Hel defeated by BOOBA in the semifinal of the Granada Gaming LAN, but still qualify to the promotion tournament for the Liga Nexo (Spanish 2nd tier)
G2 Hel are now just 2 match victories away from promoting.
G2 Hel, the female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, have placed Top 4 in the Granada Gaming LAN tournament following a 2-0 defeat to BOOBA in the semifinal. But despite this defeat, they have qualified to the promotion tournament for the Liga Nexo: Spain’s 2nd tier of League of Legends competition!
The Granada Gaming LAN tournament is part of the Circuito Tormenta, Spain’s 3rd tier of League of Legends competition. Teams compete in up to 7 different events, and earn Circuit Points based on their placement in each event. The Granada Gaming LAN was the last event for this split.
G2 Hel began their with a 1-0 victory over LittleSans Warriors in the 1st round, then followed it up with a 1-0 victory over Valkiria’s Vikings in the quarterfinal. BOOBA, temporarily known as VALORITY for some events, had already faced G2 Hel in most of this split’s Circuito Tormenta events:
TRIFORC3 TOURNAMENT qualifier 1 semifinal: G2 Hel vs BOOBA 0-1
TRIFORC3 TOURNAMENT semifinal: G2 Hel vs BOOBA 2-1
Hextech Series Division 1 Period 2 semifinal: G2 Hel vs VALORITY 0-2
Extregames LAN 24-25 final: G2 Hel vs VALORITY 0-2
Hextech Series Division 1 Period 2 final: G2 Hel vs BOOBA 0-2
The result was the same as the previous 3 times: BOOBA defeated G2 Hel 2-0. BOOBA went on to win the tournament, defeating LittleSans 2-1 in the grand final. With this tournament victory, BOOBA have won 4 out of this split’s 7 Circuito Tormenta events; more than all other teams combined!
Despite this defeat, G2 Hel have a reason to be happy. With the Circuit Points they earned from this Top 4 placement, they have finished 3rd in the overall Circuito Tormenta standings. Therefore, they get to participate in the promotion/relegation tournament of the Liga Nexo, the 2nd tier of League of Legends competition in Spain.
Today at 18:00 CEST, G2 Hel are playing their first match for the Liga Nexo promotion/relegation tournament. They are facing Sportia Khore, the 4th place team from the Circuito Tormenta. They’ve already faced each other twice this split, with a 1-1 record. The winner will advance to face Dream Makers, a Liga Nexo team, in the deciding match.
