Former League of Legends pro Xyraz dead at 32 years old
The LoL community grieves the loss of one of its members.
Former professional League of Legends player Gustav "Xyraz" Blomkvist has died at 32 years old. From 2013 to 2020, his LoL career saw him compete for a variety of reputable esports teams around Europe.
Xyraz was born in Sweden, on the 13th of November 1991. He started his competitive career in 2013, joining Team Property from Sweden. He went on to play for several notable teams in the next few years, such as Cloud9 Eclipse, Team Turquality, Besiktas, and more. He was also a substitute for 2 EU LCS splits; with H2k-Gaming in the 2015 Spring Split, and with Fnatic in the 2017 Summer Split.
On the 21st of August 2017, Xyraz was announced as the new toplaner of the Movistar Riders in the LVP SuperLiga, the official Spanish LoL championship.
8 weeks into the 2018 Summer Split of the LVP SuperLiga, with the Movistar Riders in 1st place, Xyraz was subbed out for Finn. About a month and a half later, on the 30th of August, Xyraz publicly announced that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
After taking a month’s break from League of Legends, Xyraz decided he wanted to eventually compete again. On the 7th of May 2019, he made it back to Challenger on EUW solo queue despite being in the middle of chemotherapy!
Xyraz’s last competitive games were during the 2020 Spring Split of the Ligue Française de League of Legends, the official French LoL championship. He played 4 games as a substitute for Serbian toplaner Yoppa, who was dealing with visa problems.
During his playing career, Xyraz played alongside several notable players such as Febiven, Hjarnan, Larssen, and many more.
Lots of people in the League of Legends community have somberly commented on Xyraz’s premature death. My condolences to Xyraz’s family and friends.

My best friend.. my heart is broken in two.. I'm sorry you had to live through this hell, I hope you are in a better place now playing league and dominating your lane. We who are still here will do our best to remember all the memories that you gave us and try to smile, I know that's what you would have wanted us to do.
