Background:
Europe Saviors Club is a Spanish esports organization founded in 2018. They competed in Spanish LoL tournaments until 2022, at which point they moved their League of Legends team to the Baltics. In 2023 they competed in the 2nd division of the Ultraliga, the official European Regional League which includes the Baltics.
For 2024, they moved their LoL team again. On the 7th of December 2023, Mastercard Hitpoint Masters, the official European Regional League for the Czech Republic & Slovakia, announced that Europe Saviors will participate in their top division league. An explanation on how exactly Europe Saviors acquired this spot was not provided.
This split started poorly for Europe Saviors, going 0-4. With substitute jungler IZO promoted to the starting lineup, they went 2-0 in Week 3. They changed their jungler again, bringing in free agent Aincardz. They lost their first 2 games with this lineup, but then won the 2 most recent ones to reach a total of 4 wins. They are currently tied for 5th place, 1 win away from a playoff spot.
The firing:
At 21:48 CET last night, the official Europe Saviors Club Twitter account posted an “Official Statement” announcing that they decided to stop working with the entire lineup: all 5 players + the head coach. The stated reasons were:
“lack of cooperation with the organization”
“lack of sporting results”
“disagreements with the organization”
“breaking the conditions of the contracts”
As for why no details were provided, Europe Saviors Club stated: “Regarding the contractual conditions, they cannot be made public because both the contract and the club's internal documents are completely confidential and without authorization they cannot be made public or the information passed to third parties.”
“…the organisation cannot allow certain limits to be exceeded.”
Evaan, the fired midlaner, responded with: “Reasons listed in the statement are not true and we will share our point of view once granted permission”. Previously, a few hours before the official statement, he posted a tweet of only a clown face emoji. Team manager Roma, who wasn’t included in the official statement, announced that he left Europe Saviors by his own decision.
Europe Saviors Club play their next game tomorrow, facing Team UNITY. Their lineup for that game is unknown, with the announcement stating only that “new players and some substitutes will play under our organization”.
What now?
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly negative towards Europe Saviors Club, with many condeming this decision. Some have called for ESC’s removal from the league entirely. Others have shared their own personal negative experiences with ESC. At the time of writing, Hitpoint Masters has made no statement on the situation. It’s not currently know when details will be released to the public.
