2-time Vietnam Championship Series champion EGO dead at 21 years old
The Vietnamese League of Legends community grieves the loss of a champion.
2-time Vietnam Championship Series champion Nguyễn "EGO" Khánh Hòa has died at 21 years old. He competed professionally as a League of Legends player in the VCS from 2020 to 2023.
EGO was born in Vietnam, on the 18th of October 2002. He started his competitive career at 17 years old, joining Team Flash as a trainee in February 2020. Making his first team debut as a substitute for the Mid-Season Showdown in May, he was then promoted to the starting lineup in June ahead of the Summer Split.
EGO had immediate success with Team Flash, as he won the VCS in his very first split; even getting the Finals MVP award. In November he moved to CERBERUS Esports, where he stayed for two and a half years; getting his 2nd championship in the 2021 Winter Split. In May 2023 he left CERBERUS and joined Saigon Buffalo, but didn’t play a single competitive game for them before announcing his retirement in August.
Despite being a regional champion twice, EGO never got to play on the international stage. Both of his championship victories came in the years that Vietnam did not compete in international League of Legends events due to the COVID pandemic.
The cause of death was a heart attack, and the funeral was held this morning. My condolences to EGO’s family and friends.
